Director of Social Services

Established in 1859 Guardian Angel Settlement Association (GASA) exists to serve people living in poverty by helping them improve the quality of their lives and become economically independent. Best known for Head Start and Early Head Start Programs, GASA also offers a wide array of social services including both emergency programs (rental, utility, prescription and food assistance) and long-term self-sufficiency services that provide pathways out of poverty. The Agency also operates a resale shop, the Angel Boutique. These programs help bring stability and hope to those in need.

Guardian Angel Settlement Association is seeking a Director of Social Services.  This is a full-time, exempt position that is responsible for administering, supervising, and evaluating the Agency’s social service programs. The position is responsible for managing all aspects of the department including leading and managing the Social Service Program Staff. The scheduled hours for the position are flexible to meet the demands of the position, including occasional evening and weekend hours. The position is supervised by the CEO.

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or a closely related field and a minimum of 4 years of related experience required. Master’s Degree and applicable licensure preferred, but not required. A minimum of two years of prior supervisory/management experience is also required, preferably in a social services setting. Must also have strong leadership and management skills, prior experience with grant oversite/compliance, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work with diverse populations. Travel between sites in St. Louis City required, reliable transportation, valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance is also necessary.

Infant/Toddler Teacher

Best known for Head Start and Early Head Start Programs, GASA also offers a wide array of social services including emergency rental, utility, and food assistance; senior services; self-sufficiency services; a food pantry; and a resale shop. These programs help bring stability and hope to people in need.

Guardian Angel Settlement Association is seeking two Infant/Toddler Teachers.  These are full-time, non-exempt positions that are responsible for planning, managing and implementing daily classroom programs and activities to further children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth and development. Positions are also responsible for acting as a support and resource to parents and implementing Head Start Program Performance Standards, Missouri Child Care Licensing Regulations and all Childcare procedures and objectives. The scheduled hours for the position are flexible to meet the demands of the Center between the hours of 6am – 6pm, Monday through Friday. The positions are supervised by the Assistant Director of Childcare.

Starting Salary: Associate’s Degree $13/hour, Bachelor’s Degree $15/hour.

A minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field with at least 10 early childhood education classes required. Ability to work with a broad range of children, parents, volunteers and staff in a positive manner. Excellent communication skills, organized, detail-oriented, and competent in the use of computers also required. Provide evidence of an annual physical and TB Test and have the ability to lift fifty (50) pounds. Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug test also required. CDA Certification and previous teaching experience preferred, but not required. Ability and willingness to buy into the mission of the organization is essential. EOE.
